Aggie Happy Hour

28 Sep

Last night we went to Aggie Happy Hour.  It was in Midtown at Celtic Gardens.

I had never been to this bar before and it has been over a year since I was able to go to an Aggie Happy Hour.

Me, Jami, Juli

We had SO much fun!  We ran into people we haven’t seen in a while and it was great!  It’s always nice finding people you didn’t even know were in your city and now you know they are so you can hang out with them! 🙂

I can’t wait until the next one but they are only once a month so I guess I will have to find some patience.

If you are an Aggie living in the Houston area, I strongly encourage you to come to the next one.  There is a Facebook group that lets you know when and where the Happy Hours will be.  They are always the last Thursday of the month but the location changes.  (It’s a great way to try new bars too!)

See you at the October Houston Aggie Happy Hour!

Thanks and Gig ‘Em!

Good News Everyone!

(In my head I said that just like Professor Farnsworth from Futurama.  No idea what I’m talking about? Watch a montage of him here.)

Anyways, the good news is that the NFL officials are finally coming back!

I don’t think anyone could handle having a repeat of what happened on Monday between the Packers and Seahawks.  Although I am sad that I won’t get to enjoy a laugh at the replacement referee play calling, I am excited that the NFL will go back to being a respectable league and not the laughing stock of professional sports.

Did y’all see the story a while back about the man taking his dog, Schoep, for a swim each night to calm the 19-year old pooch’s arthritic joints?

this guy‘s profile kinda reminds me of Matthew McConaughey but with a long pony tail

It melted my heart!  That’s a perfect example of a man and his best friend.  Since Schoep’s story went viral, his owner, John Unger, created a foundation to raise money for lower-income people to be able to pay for their pet’s medical issues.  Schoep is now getting laser treatments to help his arthritis and John says that it is like time has been reversed over a year for the dog.

I thought it was a beautiful story.  You can watch a video about them here and see a compilation of pictures of them here.  So sweet.

So lately I have been on a crazy Coffee Kick.  I have never been a big fan of coffee unless it takes mostly like anything but coffee.  I will usually put about 1/2 coffee, 1/2 flavored creamer just to be able to stand the taste.

Well, I discovered this awesome machine at my work that makes fancy coffees for you.  I mean, it does everything: regular coffee, flavored coffee, cappuccino, hot chocolate, hot teas, etc.  I am a big fan of cappuccino and this machine brews one single cup so it is absolute perfection.  Awesome, right?

Flavia Machine

My favorite is this one below…it doesn’t look as fantastic in this picture as it does in person which is slightly disappointing.

French Vanilla cappuccino with Milky Way swirl! Yum!

We also have sugar-free French Vanilla creamer to add to it.  With all of that, one cup is just 100 calories!  I limit myself to a maximum of 1 a day but try to only have one every other day.  They are SO addicting!

Does anyone know how to make these little cartoon things?

Because they make me smile.  And while we are on the subject of making funny things on the internet, does anyone know how to make these?

I’m sure it is really easy to do seeing as everyone is/was making them but remember I told you I was technologically illiterate.

I will be out of town this weekend with no access to the internet so I may not get to do another post until next week.  I may have the opportunity to post one tomorrow but maybe not because…

I’m going to the zoo tomorrow with my mom and I am super pumped!

So be expecting some animal pictures (mainly elephants) in the near future.

Where to next?

26 Sep

For the past two years, Joseph and I have taken some sort of vacation.  So like your typical pair of Aggies, we have done it twice so now it is a tradition.

Both big trips we have taken have been ski trips.

The first one was to Breckenridge, Colorado in January of 2011.

I had never been skiing before but I had a blast!  I only fell 2 times the whole trip and I even went a few blue trails! I was pretty impressed with myself…

Joseph, Lauren, me, Kooken, and Dano

We went with a HUGE group of friends.  Total I think there were about 40 of us in two separate houses.

Obviously we had to take a picture with the pretty horses

This trip was super cheap because if you have over 20 people you get special discounted ski lift and rental prices, not to mention splitting the cost of lodging with about 20 people basically costs nothing.  We stayed there for 4 nights and skied for 3 days and only paid about $300 each for the whole trip…the majority of that went to gas to drive all the way there!

Kooken and I were twinsies!

Needless to say, we got spoiled from the beginning.

The second trip was to Crested Butte, Colorado in December of 2011 (we just couldn’t wait a full year to take another trip).

This time it was just the two of us.

(when I wrote that I started singing “Just the two of us” by Will Smith and now it is stuck in my head)

We drove all the way there by ourselves which was exhausting.  Next time we will definitely be flying.  We stayed for 5 nights, skiing for 3 days and snowmobiling on the 4th day.

Check out that view!

Because our trip was early in the season (beginning of December) there was not as much snow as we had hoped.  And apparently this season was the worst season in about 10 years as far as amount of snow that had fallen…lucky us.

pit stopped to take pictures along our guided snowmobile tour

Our snowmobiling trip was supposed to be for 5 hours but there wasn’t enough snow so it was cut down to 3 hours.

Mac Daddy Pizza. Tasted just like a Big Mac from McDonald’s! We were so intrigued that we had to try it!

Even though it was way more expensive than the first trip, less snow than desired, and only the two of us, it was still a lot of fun because we always have fun with each other (well usually haha) but we both decided that next time we would wait a little longer in the season to go and try to make our friends go with us so we would have a big group and it would be cheaper!  We are “The More the Merrier” type of people!

So who’s down for an annual vacation with us??

He is liking the annual ski trip but I think I would like to change it up!  The problem is, I have no idea where I would want to go that isn’t out of the country, because let’s be honest, we are both too “thrifty” for those expensive flights.  I’ve never been on a cruise so I think that is what my eyes are set on…

Any suggestions for the destination of our next trip?  Where are some fun places that y’all have been for vacation?
