“…pure randomness.”

Question:  What ever happened to Fruit Stripe Gum??

I know you remember this stuff.  If you don’t then you are probably too young to be reading my blog so go away.  This was the gum that every kid loved.  Why?  Sure you could eat the paper (which wouldn’t take more than 2 seconds to take off anyway) but it also would cause the gum to be not-so-chewy and the flavor disappeared in about 5 seconds.  Did this gum vanish from the market or do they still sell this somewhere?

Last week when Joseph and I were sitting in the Whataburger drive-thru waiting on dinner (healthy, I know) we were facing perpendicular to 610.  We hear this loud screeching noise and as we look up we see this tiny silver car spinning around right in front of us on the freeway!!  They stopped facing the opposite way of the flow of traffic but miraculously no one hit them.  They just slowly turned around and sped away, probably to go get a new pair of underwear.  We have no idea what caused them to spin out of control because we weren’t looking up when we initially heard the brakes so who knows…it’s a real mystery.

Did anyone else watch the Space Jump Live on Sunday?

Felix Baumgartner’s skydive was from over 128,000 feet in the air, which is about 24 miles.  He became the first person to go faster than the speed of sound without traveling in a jet or spacecraft, when he reached a speed of Mach 1.24, or 833.9 mph.  The jump was sponsored by Red Bull, as you can obviously tell from their logo on everything in every picture.  After all, “Red Bull gives you wings.”  I watched the jump live with Joseph and my parents.  It took over 2 hours for Felix to rise to that altitude and only around 4.5 minutes to get down to 5,000 feet, where he opened his parachute.  The entire time, mission control was communicating to Felix via the poorest-sounding microphone ever.  Also, there was a camera strapped to Felix’s chest and they never even showed the footage!  Luckily, I have discovered it and you can watch it here.  Felix made it down safely and even landed on his feet.  Impressive to say the least.

This space jump has inspired several memes that I have found humorous…

I also thought this one was funny but it has some not-so-appropriate language so I didn’t want to post it directly to my blog.

Yesterday at work I cleaned out the mini fridge near my office.  Normally I wouldn’t resort to doing this myself because I have a weak stomach but the smell was horrendous and I couldn’t stand it anymore because I needed a sanitary place to keep my lunch cold every day.

As I am cleaning it out, I see a bag with a styrofoam to-go box that has been in there for at least 3 weeks.  When I open it, I couldn’t tell if it was Mexican or Asian food but there was rice and it was black, along with one rotten piece of grilled shrimp.  I didn’t know rice could even turn black.  There was mass amounts of rotten fruits and vegetables including 2 oranges that were flat, brownish-black and oozing everywhere, a bag of carrots with white mold, a small piece of fruit that was either a tiny plum or a clementine orange…either way, it was black and no longer identifiable.  My favorite was a brown paper sack that was stuck to the back of the fridge and when I pulled it away, it ripped…inside of it was a sealed (thank goodness) plastic bag containing prepackaged apple slices.  The only reason I knew they were apple slices was from the labeling on the package.  It was more of a brown puddle of mush within the bag.  When inspecting the bag, I discovered that these apples expired on 10/5/2011.  Yes, over a year ago.  Absolutely disgusting.

Today is National Boss’s Day!  So be sure to do something nice for your boss to show that you appreciate your job.  It’s a tough world out there right now so be thankful that you have a job even if you hate your boss.

My boss is absolutely wonderful so of course a few of us in my department bought her some flowers.  We ordered them yesterday and I quickly remembered why I never buy flowers for full price or make Joseph buy them for me.

The arrangement we ordered online looked like this:

What we received was this:

Someone please tell me how these are supposed to be the same arrangement?!?  Basically I think we got the same vase and roses, that’s it…looks like we got the short end of the stick on that deal.  Sorry Pam.  I promise we had good intentions.

I guess it’s the thought that counts, right?  We THOUGHT we were getting a great arrangement so I suppose that makes it a great Boss’s Day gift…? Sure.

Anyways, I hope everyone is having a great week so far!  Happy Tuesday!
