“…pure randomness.”

19 Oct

Joseph and I joined an intramural sand volleyball league with Jeremy and a few of his friends.  Our games are every Thursday night for about 6 weeks.  We play on teams of 6 and I think there are around 10 teams total.

For those of you who don’t know, Joseph and Jeremy’s favorite movie is Top Gun.  They literally know every word and always make references to it and quote the movie.  In Top Gun, there is a scene where they play sand volleyball so naturally Jeremy wanted to name our team Top Gun.  So we did.  We even bought dog tags, aviators, and jorts (jean shorts) to wear.

Intimidating, or what?

Okay, so maybe the other girls didn’t wear their aviators or jorts but whatever.  We were still intimidating.

Last week was our first game.  I really didn’t know what to expect because we have never played in this league before.  I didn’t know if the teams were going to be terrible or professionals so I was a little nervous (not to mention rusty!).  The first team we played was absolutely horrible.  Joseph started serving for us and we led the game like 14-0…he was even serving lightly so hopefully they could at least hit it back over so the rest of us could play.  Nope.  Just terrible.  Obviously we won that match in 2 games and I was seriously second guessing spending $50 to play if this was going to be the caliber of teams we would face each week.  I am not a super competitive person.  I mean, I like to win but I am not going to be angry if we lose.  But this game frustrated me so badly because I felt like I was playing with small children and just knew I wasted $50 (which is a HUGE deal for me!).

Last night we had a double-header and I was crossing my fingers that we would be playing teams that at least knew what a volleyball looked like.  Good news.  Both teams were pretty good at volleyball! Yay!  We won both matches but the second team gave us a run for our money.  We went into 3 games and the last game came down to 2 points.  This week was A LOT more fun than last week so hopefully we will keep playing teams that can at least volley back and forth with us!

About a month ago, my friend, Morgan, posted on her Facebook status that she had just tried Nutella for the first time.

About a million people commented on it saying she was crazy for not trying it sooner.  Well I had never tasted it but because everyone kept saying how delicious it was, I decided now was the time to try it!  So the other day when I had to make a random trip to the store, I picked up a small jar to see what all the fuss was about.  One day for breakfast this week I toasted a piece of wheat bread, added about a tablespoon of Nutella and cut up a banana to put on top.

I have to say, I was pretty impressed.  Nutella seems like it would be good with all different types of fruit.  I’m not so sure I would have loved the breakfast if it didn’t have the bananas on it but that may be because I am not a huge chocolate person but I LOVE anything with fruit.

The first thing I thought of when I tried it was that it tasted just like those Ferrero chocolates.  Then I realized that it says “Ferrero” underneath “Nutella” on the jar…so obviously I googled it to be sure.  You can’t go wrong with a google search.  Fun Fact:  Ferrero makes those chocolates, Nutella, and Tic Tacs.  Not quite sure why a chocolate company makes Tic Tacs but…

How do you eat Nutella?  Do you have any good recipes that include Nutella?

Neva sent me a link this morning to an article about a baby elephant being trapped in a hole in Kenya and 3 people trying to rescue it.

The article has a video included and I just about died watching it!!  The mom was nearby and was frantically trying to save her baby with zero success.  She seemed threatened by the people and almost sat down on the Land Rover they were driving.  The people had to chase her off in order to try to save her baby.  Using a rope and Land Rover, they were able to rescue the baby and she immediately takes off in a full elephant sprint to her mom.  It is all captured in the video and it melted my heart!  I will even admit I teared up a bit when she finally reached her mom!  It was adorable.  You have to watch it.  So do it.  Here it is.  Thanks, Neva, for sharing that with me!  It made my day!

Speaking of elephants.  I found this on the internet…

Elephant Costume

I found it at an online costume website last week and when I looked for it again this week, it was no longer there!!  WHY?!?  I need this!!  Does anyone know where I can find it??

Halloween is right around the corner and I can’t wait!  I love it!  Joseph, myself, and my parents will be fishing the weekend before so we won’t be able to go out to celebrate but luckily my new professionals group at work is having a Halloween party next Thursday so I will get to play dress up at least once this Halloween.  I will keep what we are dressing up as a surprise (since obviously the elephant isn’t an option anymore) and will post pictures after the party.

What are you planning on dressing up for this Halloween?  Do you have any fun plans?  And by the way, if you are one of those weird people who like scary movies and haunted houses, I am still waiting for an explanation as to why…

I hope everyone has a fun and safe weekend!  I have a busy one ahead of me with a bridal shower and Aggie football vs. LSU in College Station so I will probably be back on here Monday!

I liked the Happy ending to the elephant story, but it makes me sad they couldn’t reunite the other baby the following day with his mother as well.
