Don’t Skip Out!

9 Nov

It’s that time of year again when I begin to get frustrated.  Not because the weather is on the brink of being cold and miserable (I hate cold weather) but because I hate when people skip out on the holidays.

Why can’t people simply enjoy each holiday one at a time??  It seems like everyone is so quick to skip Thanksgiving, or even Halloween, to jump right into Christmas.  People, Christmas isn’t the only holiday in the year!  I know it is the most common “favorite” holiday but there are plenty of other ones that are pretty great, too.  I mean, think of all of the holidays throughout the year:

Now, I know not all of those are big celebrations for everyone and there are others that people may celebrate.  I personally HATE Valentine’s Day, like actually despise it.  I don’t know what it is because I am happily in love but all of those pink, red, and purple hearts and flowers and stupid stuffed animals and heart-shaped boxes of chocolates make me want to go postal on people.  So needless to say, I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day but that doesn’t mean I jump into St. Patrick’s Day and ruin Valentine’s Day for all of those people who actually enjoy it.  So why on Earth do people try to ruin Thanksgiving for me by jumping straight into Christmas?!

I have seen so many people who have put up their Christmas trees and stores that have Christmas decorations out already — Hobby Lobby even had their Christmas decorations out in July and it angered me because that is just ridiculous.  I have heard people sing Christmas music and it really makes me wish I knew a song about Thanksgiving so I can sing that to myself.  Why do people just ignore Thanksgiving like it’s no big deal?  It’s a great holiday!  You get to spend time with family and take time to be thankful for all the things in your life that God has blessed you with.  There’s no distractions to Thanksgiving (other than the amazing food).  I believe a lot of people easily forget the meaning of Christmas and immediately think of presents, decorations, and music instead of the birth of Jesus.  Why not take the time and enjoy November to be thankful because you know time flies so fast that Black Friday will be here before you know it and you can begin spreading your Christmas cheer in no time.

But please don’t ruin the holidays that some of us still enjoy by simply skipping over it each year.  Take the time this year and really give thanks for family, friends, your health, your job, the roof over your head, and everything else in your life.  When you sit down and actually think about it, I bet there is a lot for you to be thankful for so why not show that appreciation?  What are you thankful for?

Does anyone else get upset that people are skipping out on certain holidays?
