BCS Bowl Game Announcements

3 Dec

Last night, the college football BCS Bowl Games were announced.

The final top 10 BCS rankings were as follows:

1) Notre Dame

2) Alabama

3) Florida

4) Oregon

5) Kansas State

6) Stanford

7) Georgia

8) LSU

9) Texas A&M

10) South Carolina

I am not a fan of the way the BCS Bowl games are decided.  I think it should be the top 10 teams go to the 5 BCS Bowl games.  1 plays 2 for the championship, 3 plays 4, 5 plays 6, etc.  But noooo.  Everything has to be on a “fair” playing field.  Only 2 teams from each conference are allowed to play in the BCS Bowl games.  Why?  Is it because the world can’t handle the same conferences and teams dominating each year?  It is probably for the same reason that people believe every participant in everything should win a trophy…even if they were last.  That’s why everyone feels entitled now a days because you baby them from childhood to let them think they deserve a reward for being terrible.  You don’t.  Try harder and work for you reward rather than expecting a hand out!  When you apply for a job they don’t give everyone a tiny job because they applied, they give it to the one person most deserving.  Being rejected and losing are parts of life everyone needs to learn and the earlier you learn it, the better.  I am terrible at a lot of things so you know what I did when I didn’t get a trophy?  I tried harder or branched out to find something I could actually excel in. **Stepping off my “not everyone is a winner” soap box now.**

What’s the point of even ranking the teams throughout the season if the top 10 aren’t going to get the best bowl games?  Why not put all the teams in each conference in a hat and pull out 2 and let them go to the BCS Bowl games?  Because that’s exactly what it feels like we are doing…

Unfortunately this system babies the not-so-great conferences.  You know what happens when you do that?

You get #3 Florida playing #21 Louisville in the Sugar Bowl, #12 Florida State playing #15 Northern Illinois in the Orange Bowl and #6 Stanford playing Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl!  Notice there is no number in front of Wisconsin because THEY AREN’T EVEN RANKED!!  Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M, and South Carolina – all members of the SEC get screwed out of playing in a BCS Bowl game because “it’s not fair to other conferences”.

The sole reason I am griping is not because A&M doesn’t get to go to a BCS Bowl game…I am griping because these match-ups are ridiculous and aren’t going to be any fun to watch.  I am not disappointed with our bowl game because we will be playing Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl.  I think we have one of the best match-ups out of all of the bowl games.  I would rather not play in a BCS Bowl game and play against #11 Oklahoma then have to be like Florida or Stanford and play a team ranked 18 spots below you or one that isn’t even ranked.

Oh well, at least they will be changing the system in 2014…we will see how that works out.

Until then, I will still be excited to watch the Aggies take on the Sooners on January 4th.  As for most of the BCS Bowl games…I may watch them if nothing else is on and I have nothing better to do…
