HEISMANZIEL

WHOOP!!!

Call Him Johnny Heisman

So who is still on Cloud 9 from Johnny Manziel winning the Heisman Trophy on Saturday?!?  I know I am!  And I’m sure Mr. Manziel himself still is!

Thursday night was the Home Depot College Football Awards.  Johnny Manziel won the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award while Manti Te’o won the Chuck Bednarik Award for defensive player of the year and the Maxwell Award for most outstanding player.

With both of them winning prestigious awards, it made everyone sit on the edge of their seats for the Heisman Ceremony.

Also, I would like to give a shout-out to Aggie junior offensive tackle, Luke Joeckel, for taking home the Outland Trophy for most outstanding interior lineman.

Thursday night also happened to be Johnny Manziel’s 20th birthday.  At the beginning of the awards show they had Luke Joeckel bring out a birthday cake for Johnny and Luke said something along the lines of, “I mean, what else do I have to do for him?”  haha funny guy.

Saturday night was SO exciting!  My family prepped for the announcement by getting #2 Aggie shirts.  I have officially converted my family into Aggies 🙂  Of course, it didn’t take much convincing…

Saturday night, Johnny Manziel made history (yet again) by setting another record.  As a 2-day 20-year-old, he became the first red shirt freshman to ever win a Heisman Trophy.

The first time Johnny spoke to the press was after our last game of the season vs. Missouri, which, as a reminder, was only 2 weeks ago.  This kid is amazing.  I was beyond impressed with his maturity, calm nature, and class.  And his Heisman speech was no different.  If you missed Johnny giving his acceptance speech, go watch it here. Now.  Absolutely amazing, especially for a first year player who has only had one teleconference and one press conference before being sent to NYC.  Manziel is an incredible guy.  Never has he ever accepted full credit for his success.  It always comes back to his teammates, coaches, and fans.  For someone who actually has the right to be cocky and brag about himself, he doesn’t ever do it.  Johnny seems very genuine about it all.  It’s refreshing.  I would also like to point out that he said the Heisman was for Aggies everywhere, which includes me.  So I now am the proud recipient of the Heisman Trophy!  Whoop!

I just hope this doesn’t put too much pressure on Johnny that it gets in his head because he still has a lot of college football still to play…remember, he IS only a freshman.  All I can say is that I am very excited for the changes that have happened for Texas A&M and for all of the changes yet to come.  I cannot wait to see the recruiting we get out of all of the publicity surrounding our football team this year.  We already have committed players for the 2013 team that give me goosebumps when I watch their highlight reels.

I think Johnny can beat the Heisman Trophy curse that usually follows the winner because the winner usually ends up losing their bowl game.  Manziel has been an exception to almost every rule, why not this one, too?

Congratulations, Johnny Heisman!  You definitely deserve it!

I agree, what a great weekend it was to be an Aggie and or an Aggie Fan in general. I have been an Aggie fan since the late 70’s, early 80’s (i know, I am telling my age) when I spent many a weekend in College Station going to games with friends that actually attended A&M. I am more than proud both my children received degrees from Texas A&M and Tarleton State (a Texas A&M affiliated campus). I personally think there is no other State college where you can get a better degree nor is there any other college in the world, that after graduation you remain part of an extended family for life. It is great to be an Aggie !
