12.12.12

12 Dec

Today is 12.12.12.

In spirit of this day, here are some fun facts about 12.12.12:

1)  Today has been declared “Day of the 12th Man.”  Today at 12:12pm Aggies are encouraged to share a moment and listen to the Aggie War Hymn.  Many radio stations in Texas will be playing our War Hymn, including Houston’s own Sunny 99.1, which also happens to be the best place to hear your Christmas music for the entire month of December!

You can find more information about the 12 Days of Texas A&M here.

2)  Today is exactly 6 years, 6 months, and 6 days from June 6, 2006 (06.06.06.).

c)  Today also happens to be the beginning of the countdown of the 12 Days of Christmas.

4)  Today is this century’s last sequential date.  (We have already experienced 01.01.01, 02.02.02, etc.)  So I feel we need to be celebrating today because this won’t happen again until January 1, 2101!

5)  Today David’s Bridal has estimated there to be somewhere around 7,500 couples getting married due to the once-in-a-century wedding date.  (but isn’t every date a once-in-a-century date?)

6)  Today many people believe the world will end, while others think it will be 12.21.12.  Me?  I think people are nuts.  Remember how many canned food items and water bottles were sold around Y2K?  We all know how that turned out…

&)  Women everywhere are inducing labor today in order to have their baby’s birthday be 12.12.12.  Awesome, right?  Sure, if you don’t mind your baby not being completely developed and may need to be in a bubble for the rest of its life…but I’m sure they will love their birthday and give you the parent of the year award…that is if their brain has reached its proper cognitive development and can they are able to recognize who you are.

8)  On this day in 1800, Washington D.C. was established as the capitol of the United States.  Happy 212th birthday to our nation’s capitol!

9)  Along with the Aggie War Hymn being played everywhere, at 12:12:12pm the number 12 will have a staggering 6 repeats!  12.12.12 12:12:12.

10)  December 12th is National Ambrosia Day.  Ambrosia was known as the food to the Greek gods but is now really just a canned fruit, cool whip or yogurt, coconut, marshmallows, and maraschino cherries combination.  Maybe I will make Ambrosia for dessert tonight…

!!) 12 years ago on this day, the Supreme Court reversed a state court decision for a recount in Florida’s contested election, making George W. Bush the new president-elect.

12)  Because you all know I just love math because I am so good at it (insert sarcastic chuckle here) this last fact is math related.  The number 12 is loved by mathematicians and scientists because it is one of the few smaller numbers that can be divided into halves, thirds, fourths, sixths, and twelfths.  Because it is so easily divided, the number 12 is used for many different things:  12 inches in a foot, 12 in a dozen, 12 ounces in a troy pound which is used to measure gold, silver, and gems, 12 hours on a clock, 24 hours in a day, and 12×12 (144) equals a gross.

See, 12.12.12 is an exciting day and should be celebrated!  Plus,

which is slightly depressing…so might as well live it up!  It’s your only chance. Ever.
