Robin Williams

26 Aug

I know I am WAY late on talking about Robin Williams’s death but I can’t NOT post about it.

I had just gotten out of the shower and getting ready for bed when Joseph told me and I honestly thought it was a joke.  “No way.  That’s just some internet hoax.”

Normally I find celebrity deaths to be sad, just as any other death of someone you don’t know.  It’s sad and sometimes tragic but it never truly hits you.  This one was different.  Robin Williams was different.

It’s like my media childhood was ripped up.

There are so many movies of my childhood that he was in that I just loved.  I know there are like a million more out there but these are just some that I watched so many times.  It’s always hard to hear that someone took their own life but for someone who seemed so happy and could make everyone else laugh, it was shocking.

Hopefully something positive came from Robin’s death though.  I pray that people will become more aware of the signs of suicide and how to help someone who struggles with suicidal thoughts.  There are so many things in this world to live for, don’t let the few things that get you down over power your life.

One of my favorite quotes that a friend of mine’s mom used to always say…  “If God brings me to it, God will bring me through it.”

If someone in your life struggles with suicidal thoughts or tendencies, please educate yourself on how to be there for them and get them help.  The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is a great start.

Evan Rachel Wood’s tweet summed it up best….

47th Annual CMA Awards

7 Nov

The 47th Annual CMA Awards were on last night.  Did you watch it??  As always, I did.

Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley hosted again.  I love them.  Still.  They are funny every year.  They always crack jokes about what is going on in the media, country music, and nation in general.  I’m not quite sure what Carrie was wearing but her legs are rockin’ so who cares.

This year they chose feuds, twerking, Obamacare, and Duck Dynasty.  They even thanked Taylor Swift on behalf of the industry for not humping teddy bears or gyrating with Beetlejuice – which was clearly a stab at Miley Cyrus.  See part of their intro here.

When they sang a parody of Blurred Line as “Duck Blinds” Jase and Willy from Duck Dynasty came out dancing with their wives.

I feel like the show (DD) has become very staged but seeing how terrible they are at acting at the awards show makes me second guess that a little bit! haha I love Duck Dynasty though, no matter how much of it is staged…they are still funny and a Godly family and a great influence on America.  Very refreshing from the Honey Boo-Boos of the world…

Kacey Musgraves performed.  I really like her.  She’s got a different sound to her and her songs are always harsh and real.  And I like that.  She also won New Artist of the Year so apparently I’m not alone 🙂

I don’t know what it is about Little Big Town but I just can’t get into them.  I’m just not a fan.  But maybe I will convert…Miranda Lambert got me to dislike her less in recent times so maybe I will come around for Little Big Town too…we shall see.  But not today.

Okay, I just have to ask.  What happened to manly men?  I thought FOR SURE my country men would stay rugged and burly…nope. SO MANY were wearing skinny jeans, tight t-shirts, and long girly hair.  What happened to Wranglers and cowboy hats?!?  Where have all the men gone in entertainment?!  Somebody please help!  We need a search party for the George Straits of the world!  I would show you pictures but I don’t know who half of them were to even find a picture on Google…sorry.

In funny wardrobes, Brad came out in a Robin Thicke-Beetlejuice special.  Ha.

Keith Urban and Miranda Lambert performed together for the first time at the CMAs.  I wasn’t totally annoyed with her this time so, see, I’m coming around.  BTW Keith is one of the few that can pull off the long, girly hair and skinny jeans because he has been doing it forever.  I thought it was cute that Blake was jamming along in the crowd to his wife’s song.  Whether I like her or not, they make a cute couple.

Taylor swift performed her song “Red” with Vince Gill, Allison Krauss and a few others.  It was interesting.  I didn’t love it but it was different and I like when songs are changed up a bit.  After seeing Taylor in concert I just can’t stand to watch her stupid looks out into the crowd now though…ugh.  I wish she would quit getting a standing ovation EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR.  It only makes her ego bigger.

I’m not a fan of Florida Georgia Line either.  Apparently I am one of the few though because they won several times…

Hunter Hayes and Jason Mraz was a weird combo.  Where did Mraz come from?  He looked uncomfortable the whole time but I don’t think I’ve ever seen him perform so maybe he looks like that all the time??

Taylor Swift wasn’t the only one who received a standing ovation.  Eric Church deserved his though.  His performance was VERY rock and roll rather than country but it was good.  His band can wail on the guitar now… You can watch a poor quality video of his performance here.  Sorry that’s the best I could find.

So I know Carrie Underwood gets a lot of hype for her rockin’ legs (I’m included in the fans) but did y’all see Kimberly Perry’s arms?!  She’s the chick in the Band Perry in case you didn’t know.  I want those arms!

Blake Shelton won the Album of the Year.  I was kinda surprised because he was up against Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift.  Both had great albums.  I haven’t heard all of Blake’s but it must be pretty great to beat both of those.

How old is Tim McGraw these days?  There should be an award for the couple that has aged the most magnificently because it would go to Tim & Faith.  They are beautiful.  Although I do wish Tim had on jeans instead of those weird slacks…

Taylor Swift was given the Pinnacle Award.  She was presented by Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, George Strait, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, and Keith Urban – who she has opened for at some point in her career.  Ethel Kennedy, JT, and Ellen Degeneres were among the many people who were recorded congratulating her on the award.  As annoying as her concert was, Taylor is still a pretty classy lady.  She is a good role model for young girls, and as we have all seen, that is rare with the Miley’s of the world…Congrats, Taylor.  Just quit staring at the crowd so long when they applaud you.

Of course, my favorite part of the show was when my country girl crush, Carrie Underwood, performed a sample mix of a few of her songs.  She’s gorgeous, has a killer voice, a rockin’ bod, and is a Godly woman.  The only thing wrong with her is that she’s vegan.  Sorry Carrie, you can’t win them all!  But then I guess that’s why you have that rockin’ hot bod…touché.

Alan Jackson and George Strait paid their respect to George Jones by singing “He Stopped Loving Her Today.”  Now THAT is country music!  Two old school country boys saluting a country icon via musical tribute.  Loved it!  Here’s another poor quality video but you get the idea…not sure why it is so zoomed in and you can’t see them well but whatever.

Rascal Flatts, Darius Rucker, and Jennifer Nettles all honored Kenny Rogers by performing some of his songs.  I’m not a fan of any of them so I wasn’t impressed.  Sorry I’m not sorry.

Female Vocalist of the Year went to Miranda Lambert, yet again.  That would be the 4th time.  Her first words, “Well Hell.” Sigh.  She was awkward when she mentioned all the other nominees.  It was odd and forced.  But she did thank Blake for putting up with her crap which seemed genuine…

Luke Bryan sang a song in the memory of his late brother and sister.  I didn’t realize he lost them both – brother to a car accident and sister to unknown causes while at home with her son.  It was very sad but very sweet too.

Male Vocalist of the Year went to Blake Shelton, yet again.  The country power couple does it again.  4 years for them both now.  I like Blake though.

Entertainer of the Year went to George Strait!! WHOOP!  Rightfully so.  The man had an amazing year with his Cowboy Rides Away tour, not to mention he is a country icon.  I mean, it’s King George!  You can’t NOT love him!

King George - now that is what a country music man looks like!

King George – now that is what a country music man looks like!

The show seemed long this year but maybe that’s because I was so tired…who knows.  I felt like there weren’t many awards given out, just more performances, which is okay I guess…

What did you think?

Happy October 22nd!!

22 Oct

Anyone know what today is?!

Anyone?  Bueller?  Bueller?

Today is the release date of Katy Perry’s new album, PRISM!!!!   WHOOHOO!!!

Have I mentioned how much I love KP?  Pretty sure I have but she is my all-time girl crush so I will express it again…  I LOVE HER!  She is amazing.  Yeah she’s a little weird but that’s what I love about her.  She isn’t afraid to be herself and doesn’t care what people think of her…oh and she has an amazing voice and catchy songs.

PRISM is a lot more mature than Teenage Dream (her last album in case you aren’t up to date on KP).  Teenage Dream was filled with fun, pop-ish hits and PRISM is filled with songs geared more toward adulthood and maturing in relationships with others and the relationship with you have with yourself.  She sings a lot of her failed marriage with Russell Brand and how she overcame the depression she felt once they ended things.  It is a deep and personal album and a lot of songs gave me chills on numerous occasions.

Yes it was released today and yes I have listened to the entire thing almost twice and it’s not even 8am yet.  Every time I hear a song I like it more and more.  I am interested to see which ones will become big radio hits.  Obviously we’ve all heard “Roar” and if you didn’t love it, stop reading my blog because you are banned because the song was great and you should be ashamed of yourself for not completely loving it.  kthanks.

If I had to pick a favorite song on this album I would say “Dark Horse” just because it has a hip-hop aspect that we haven’t seen from Katy yet BUT I also like “Unconditionally” and “By the Grace of God” a lot too.   Well actually I liked them all.  AHH it’s too hard to pick a favorite!  Don’t make me!

If you haven’t heard any of her new songs, go listen to them now.  You won’t regret it.  Especially if you are feeling down because she has a way with her songs to lift you up and make you feel great about yourself.  Another reason why I love her so much!

ANNDDD….look how good she looked in the “Roar” video!  So naturally beautiful and a rockin’ hot bod!!

Now I want to know when she will be in town on her next tour because I am ready for another amazing KP performance in Houston!! Her California Dreams tour was BY FAR the best concert I have seen so far and cannot wait to see her again!
